Listen, Learn, Labor, Love... a new year's quote... {Frame it! Friday}

This week's {Frame it! Friday} is an inspirational quote by Thomas S Monson, about the new year. (If you want to read the entire address, click here, it's fabulous!) It's the time of year where a lot of people start making resolutions; setting goals or choosing key words or phrases to dedicate to the next year. I came across this quote and decided to adopt it for my own for 2017. Feel free to join me, or choose your own! As always, print, frame and enjoy! Happy New Year!

Christmas Stockings

This year I made new Christmas stockings for my family. I have been planning this project for quite a while and had decided on making quilted stockings. I just love how homey and classic they look. I decided that I wanted them to coordinate but not be exactly the same so I used the same fabric for them all, but different patterns. I'd like to say I took meticulous step by step photos throughout the process, but I worked on them a little bit at a time, over the course of several months, and didn't always think to take photos. I have a newfound appreciation for all the quilters out in the world. It is a lot more challenging than you'd think, and took a lot longer than I'd expected. It was all worth it in the end though, I am in love with these new stockings!
(...and a great big thank you to my two sisters who helped me cut out linings and "think" through the assembly process, and to the sweet lady who used her embroidery machine to put our names on the cuffs for me. I couldn't have done it without you!)

This is the lining. It took me forever to figure out how to assemble everything so that I wouldn't have any exposed seams. This tutorial from Cluck Cluck Sew helped so, so much!

I Will Honor Christmas in My Heart... {Frame it! Friday}

This week's {Frame it! Friday} is my favorite quote from A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. It is a beautiful thought; a reminder to help keep the spirit we feel at Christmas time throughout the entire year. As always, simply print, frame and enjoy! Happy Friday, and Merry Christmas!

Stars Were Gleaming... {Frame it! Friday}

There is a Christmas song entitled Stars Were Gleaming that our little children sing at church. It is about the night of our Savior's birth and is one on my favorites. This week's {Frame it! Friday} is in honor of that sweet song. (If you'd like to hear the song for yourself click here!)

Here are the lyrics to the song Stars Were Gleaming
music can be found here

Stars were gleaming, shepherds dreaming;
And the night was dark and chill.
Angels story rang with glory;
Shepherds heard it on the hill.
Ah, that singing! Hear it ringing,
Earthward winging, Christmas bringing!
Hearken! We can hear it still!

See the clearness and the nearness
Of the blessed Christmas star,
Leading, guiding; wise men riding
Through the desert dark and far,
Lovely showing, shining, growing,
Onward going, gleaming glowing,
Leading still, our Christmas star!

Christmas Graham Cracker Houses and Trees

When our oldest kids were little we started making graham cracker houses for Christmas. It was always so much fun. But as our family expanded from 1 to 6 little kids, the logistics of helping everybody assemble them became a challenge. I only have so many hands! We modified our tradition a bit over the years out of necessity. The kids really don't seem to mind, either. They are happy as long as there's frosting and candy around.

(This is a picture of my daughter with one of our houses when she was about 4.)

From graham cracker houses, we progressed to Christmas trees! No more trying to get the walls of a graham cracker house to stay up x6! These trees are made from upside down ice cream cones- no constructing required! You simply apply frosting to the outside of the cone and add candies. Quick and easy!
