The NJHS students (National Junior Honor Society) at my son's school hosts a Service Fair every year. Each student plans and completes a service project. They document their projects and then gather at the fair to share the results. This year my son chose to be part of the Kindness Rocks Project. Kindness rocks are rocks that have been painted and colored with motivational thoughts and left in random places for other people to find. There is the hope that each rock will bring a smile into the day of whoever is lucky enough to come across one.
My son recruited some help from his cousins and got to work painting rocks. (this would make an awesome family night activity, or youth group activity at church!)
The rocks turned out great!
Once the rocks were completed they went out into the community to distribute them. They left rocks everywhere... parks, baseball dugouts, walking trails, shuttle stations, libraries, etc.
It was a really fun project that we hope to repeat. You can join in the fun, too.
Simply color some rocks and leave them out for others to find.
You might even check out the hashtag: #kindnessrocksproject to see more rocks.
Rocks have been sighted all over the world. What an amazing thing to be a part of!
PS A great big thank you to my niece Jennifer for taking the pictures!

DeleteThese are wonderful and you son is doing a wonderful thing. We read about this 'rock' project across the US, mostly in Florida and started our own thing here in Philadelphia. It is so much fun to paint together as a family. Our next task is to place them around and spread kindness. This is a wonderful project your son did, and the world today can sure use it! #AwesomeLifeFriday

This is such a sweet project. I think little things like this make a big difference in the lives of the children who paint the rocks and of anybody who finds one of them. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteMy son and family sure enjoyed participating!

DeleteWhat a lovely idea. I've seen people making and giving out crochet stars and flowers over on instagram which I thought was lovely but the painted rock idea is good as it's not limited to people who can crochet!
ReplyDeleteI am all about projects that are all inclusive. This one was fun, too. Thanks for the kind words.
