PJ'S Party

For our class activity we decided to have a Pajama Party. The girls were invited to come in their (appropriate) pajamas or comfy sweats, and to bring a pillow. They were also asked to bring their scriptures, their Personal Progress Books and their journals.

We started the night off with The Parable of the Camel's Nose. (see previous post). And yes, we did have our lesson in our tent.
When we got to the section on what we can do to keep our "tents" safe and protected- we talked about the IMPORTANCE of PJ'S. In this case PJ's stand for PRAYER, (PERSONAL PROGRESS), JOURNALS, and SCRIPTURES.

I created this booklet to go along with our PJ'S theme. Each section has a quote about each topic.

(It started off a 1 page document, which I cut into sections, and stapled with ribbon to create the book. The link is at the end of this post.)

This is the poem that is at the end of the booklet, and which was the inspiration for this activity:

PJ'S
When you put your PJ’s on & climb into bed,

We want them to remind you of what is ahead.

They’re waiting and waiting, so at the end of day,

You’ll quickly put them on and then you’ll kneel to pray.

But as you pick them up, you’ll notice you’re not through,

Please pick up a pen to help with the writing you will do.

With your pen and journal, write about the day,

Remember all the blessings the Lord gave you today.

And now before you settle down, there’s one last thing to do.

It’s time to read the scriptures, they will be a guide for you.

Now that you are dressed for bed and wearing your PJ’s,

Look again and you will find the SPIRITUAL PJ’S.

PRAYERS, JOURNALS and SCRIPTURES

to protect and cover you well,

The Lord will always be with you and the Holy Ghost will dwell.

His love will touch your spirit each night before you sleep,

And carry you the whole day through if these PJ’S you will keep.

The girls have journals that go along with their Personal Progress books, but we decided to give them "scripture journals" too. They can use these books to jot down their "a-Ha!" moments as they are reading the scriptures. They are also small enough that they will fit inside their scripture case.

We even made PJ'S shirts to sleep in.

We then "practiced putting our PJ'S on" by doing Personal Progress Choice and Accountability Goal #1 together as a class, which is:

A daughter of God can make wise decisions and solve problems. Read 1 Nephi 15:8; 2 Nephi 32:3; Alma 34:19–27; Ether 2–3; and Doctrine and Covenants 9:7–9. Follow a pattern of regular scripture study and prayer to receive help in making personal decisions such as choosing good friends, being kind to others, getting up on time, or other decisions. Discuss with a parent or leader how regular scripture study and prayer helped you make correct decisions.

  2. Where is Nephi, Alma and Ether? and Doctrine and Covenants? They aren't in the Holy Bible.

    1. You're right, those books are not found in the Bible. I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and in addition to the Bible we also believe in another book of scripture called The Book of Mormon. The verses can be found there.
